Class Request Information for the 2014-2015 School Year

A change has been made this year to the process of sharing class placement requests and special considerations for next school year. I ask that parents who would like to share a request or other information with me regarding their child’s class placement for next year, to please come to the school’s front office during the request window of May 19-30 to receive and fill out a request form. Forms will include specific guidelines regarding the request process. In order for a request to be accepted, it must be completed according to the guidelines, have a secretary’s signature approving the form, and must be received by a member of our office staff during the request window (May 19-30). Forms will not be sent home. I will consider the gathered information along with other academic and school information as I work to create classes that are balanced according to range of student ability, behaviors, gender, and the number of students. If you have any questions, please visit with me or a member of the school’s office staff.    Thank you.  Mike Larsen

Life in a Jar

Submitted by janna.slye on Fri, 03/28/2014 - 15:47

Mr. Myles Peterson’s 6th grade class presented an extraordinary performance of Life in a Jar.  This student-produced drama began as a project for four 9th grade students from Kansas.  They discovered the story of a Polish Catholic woman named Irena Sendler who saved 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust.  The Kansas students researched Irena Sendler and wrote a script depicting her story. The story became so well-known because of these Kansas students that Life in a Jar has been performed over 285 times all across the United States, Canada, and Poland. Mr. Peterson’s class did an excellent job of portraying Irena Sendler’s story and message of love and heroism.  Well done 6th graders!

SEP / Student Led Conferences – Wednesday, March 19

We are excited to share with you that our SEP conferences on March 19 will be Student Led Conferences. Student Led Conferences provide opportunities for students to make learning active as they share with parents their knowledge and understanding of essential learning outcomes specific to their grade level by completing learning activities. These conferences will also help students evaluate their performance on key standards, and in turn, accept additional responsibility for their learning.

Student Led Conferences will include two parts.

Part one, students will complete learning      activities with parents.

Part two, conferencing time with teacher if      desired by parent, student, or teacher.

 Part One

We invite you to come with your student to complete the student led portion of the conference. Students will lead the conference by completing learning activities. Please come at one of the times listed on the schedule below.
