The 4th grade students at Sierra Bonita Elementary recently enjoyed a field trip to the Natural History Museum of Utah in Salt Lake City. The students were amazed by the exhibits full of gems, dinosaurs and fossils, Native American artifacts and plants and animals of Utah. Along the way, each student got to complete a scavenger hunt while being able to interact with the exhibits and learn. This was a perfect way to spend the day!

Teachers and students anxiously awaited the Halloween Parade.  Parents arrived early to help students into their costumes while others quickly lined the hallways.  The yearly Halloween parade was led by “Mr. Larsen” also known as Shane Fawson, followed by Miss Peggy Freek’s  class.  The “Monster Mash” played as zombies, aliens, and witches roamed the school.

Pumpkinland

Kindergarten students had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Vineyard Nursery and enjoy their "Pumpkinland".  In class they have been discussing and learning about the four seasons and specifically the fall season.  They have been talking about the signs of fall and this was the perfect opportunity to see the signs of fall.  They had lots of fun looking at the different types of pumpkins and gourds.  Students got lost in a corn maze and also were able to see how corn grows.  They also were able to see giant sunflowers and talk about how we get sunflower seeds

Lt. Governor Bell Visits Sierra Bonita

Submitted by janna.slye on

On October 23, 2012, Lt. Governor Greg Bell came to Sierra Bonita Elementary.  He said if you are getting made fun of, you should always be happy, nice, and kind anyway.  It doesn’t matter who you are, be nice to everyone!  You should ignore people if they are being unkind.  You should still be nice to them anyway.  If you are nice to people, they will most likely be nice to you.  Be proud of who you are!  Always be nice to everyone!  Lt. Governor Bell was impressed with Sierra Bonita and our principal Mr. Mike Larsen.

Chess, the game of foresight and strategy, has crept into mornings at Sierra Bonita.  Mr. Shawn Rawlings, the assistant principal, has created a club for chess lovers.  Experienced chess players meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to challenge each other to a game of chess.  A round robin tournament per grade level will be played to determine who will compete in the final tournament.  The final tournament will decide the overall winner.  Students have the opportunity to compete with one another and the winners will receive trophies.  Mr.
