Sierra Bonita School News

December-2015

Christmas Wish Upon a Star
Sierra Bonita PTA would love to make our teachers' Christmas wishes come true! Parents here is how you can help... Starting December 1
st outside of your child's/children's classroom is a Christmas tree with paper ornaments. On each ornament is written an item that the teacher has selected that would benefit their classroom. You are more than welcome to come before or after school to choose an ornament. (Make sure you take the paper ornament with you.) You can also instruct your child to choose an ornament to bring home. Bring the donation that is written on the ornament back to the teacher by Friday, December 18th.  Sierra Bonita PTA

Singing Around the Tree
We are happy to share the schedule for our annual Singing Around the Tree performances and assemblies. During these events, students will perform as grade levels, and everyone will have the opportunity to sing together. We invite families and friends to come and enjoy these performances and singing. Grade levels will perform according to the following schedule:

Friday, December 11 (2:00pm) – Performing: PM Kindergarten, 2nd, 5th

Tuesday, December 15 (9:30am) – Performing: AM Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd

Friday, December 18 (9:30am) – Performing: 4th, 6th

We hope to see you there!

Christmas Needs Drive
The Student Council is holding a Christmas Needs Drive and will be collecting non-perishable food items and new socks from December 7 through the 18. If you would like to donate any food or socks, please have your child bring canned or non-perishable food items and socks to his/her classroom. The food donated will be collected in each classroom and then put on display by each grade level in the form of a creative sculpture. The more items a class collects, the better chance the grade has at winning a prize. After, the food will be donated to families in need in our school community. Any extra food will be donated to a local food pantry. The socks will be donated to The Christmas Box Non-Profit Organization.

Lost and Found
If your child has lost a jacket, coat, or any other item, we ask you to look through the Lost and Found bins as soon as possible. The Lost and Found bins are located in the hallway near the auditorium until Christmas break. All items that remain in the Lost and Found after December 18 will be donated to charity.

SEP Conferences
Our second SEP conferences will be held Wednesday, January 13. SignUpGenius was used to schedule October and January conferences. For each appointment that is scheduled, you should receive a confirmation email from SignUpGenius the week of December 14 & January 4. If you have any questions or concerns about SignUpGenius or about SEP Conferences, please call the school at 801-798-4480, an office staff member will be happy to assist you.

Temperature, Air Quality & Outside Activities
School personnel will monitor the weather, temperature, air quality, and surface conditions each day to determine whether or not to have outside, choice, or inside activities at recesses and other times.  The Department of Air Quality has a web page that provides the “current conditions” of air quality for Utah County. You can find this information at www.airquality.utah.gov. We will work to follow temperature and air quality guidelines that allow students to benefit from outdoor exercise when appropriate and to provide indoor protection when outdoor activities are not recommended for all students. We encourage parents to inform the school if their child is part of the sensitive group or should have limited outdoor activity when outside temperatures are cooler or the air quality is of a poorer quality.

Drop off/pick up zone procedures
Thank you for all you are doing to provide for the safety of students in our drop-off and pick up zones. We ask that if you have need to park your car, especially directly before school or after school, to please park in a parking stall and not in our drop off/pick up zone. As we work together in this regard, we will be able to provide for the safety of our students while keeping our drop off/pick up zone running smoothly. Please contact the school office if you have questions. Thank you!
