Zions Bank “Lights On”
Sierra Bonita Elementary will be participating in the Zions Bank tree-trimming tradition called “Lights On”. Students have created ornaments in arts class with Nikki Huntington to be hung from the tree located at the Spanish Fork Zions Bank. There will be a “Lights On” ceremony that will take place at the bank on December 4, at 4:45pm, where our students/families will gather together to light the tree and our school choir will perform. All are invited to attend.

Christmas Needs Drive
The Student Council is holding a Christmas Needs Drive and will be collecting non-perishable food items and new socks from December 2 through the 13

. If you would like to donate any food or socks, please have your child bring canned or non-perishable food items and socks to his/her classroom. The food donated will be collected in each classroom and then put on display by each grade level in the form of a creative sculpture. The more items a class collects, the better chance the grade has at winning a prize. After, the food will be donated to families in need in the community, and any extra food will be donated to the Food Coalition. The socks will be donated to The Christmas Box Non-Profit Organization.

Character Corner
During the month of December students will be learning how to treat those around them with kindness. Please discuss the saying, “do unto others as you would want them to do unto you” with your student. We hope that by doing this that your student will seek out opportunities to show kindness to those around them.

PTA Wish Upon a Star
Each year, as the holidays approach, we like to do our “Wish upon a Star” activity. Please have your child look for the Christmas tree displayed on each teacher’s door. Your child may pick a star off their teacher’s tree of an item they would like to gift to their teacher to help their classroom through the rest of the school year.  Please remember, this is just an alternate for a gift for your child's teacher for Christmas and is not expected.  We will have the teacher “wishes” up until December 16th. You may bring your teacher wish back anytime during the month of December.    Thanks – Sierra Bonita PTA

Introduction to Mrs. Stirland, Sierra Bonita Administrative Intern (Assistant Principal)
I grew up riding horses, feeding cows and hauling hay on a farm in Woods Cross, Utah.  I have four children that have all graduated from high school and are now in college—they are my greatest joy. I like swimming, running, biking, watching BYU football and reading good books.  Other than spending time with my family, my favorite thing to do is to teach children.  I have taught school for 15 years, 12 of those years at Spanish Oaks Elementary.  I am current working on a master’s degree at BYU in educational leadership.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to spend part of my intern experience at Sierra Bonita.

Singing Around the Tree
We look forward to our annual Singing Around the Tree performances and assemblies that will take place during the month of December. During these events, students will perform as grade levels, and all students, parents, and staff members will have the opportunity to sing Christmas/Holiday songs. We invite families and friends to come and enjoy these performances and singing. Grade levels will perform according to the following schedule:

Monday, December 16 (2:00pm) 1st, 3rd, 6th

Thursday, December 19 (2:00pm) PM Kindergarten, 2nd, Mrs. Snyder

Friday, December 20 (9:30am) AM Kindergarten, 4th, 5th

We hope to see you there!

Lost and Found
If your child has lost a jacket, coat, or any other item, we ask you to look through the Lost and Found bins as soon as possible. The Lost and Found bins are located in the hallway near the auditorium until Christmas break. All items that remain in the Lost and Found after December 20 will be donated to charity.

SEP Conferences
SEP Conferences will be held on Wednesday, January 8.
This is an important time to come and meet with your child’s teacher to discuss progress and to set goals.  Reminder notes with your scheduled time will be coming home right after Christmas break.

Temperature, Air Quality & Outside Activities
School personnel will monitor the weather, temperature, and air quality each day to determine whether or not to have outside, choice, or inside activities.  The Department of Air Quality has a web page that provides the “current conditions” of air quality for Utah County. You can find this information atwww.airquality.utah.gov. We will work to follow temperature and air quality guidelines that allow students to benefit from outdoor exercise when appropriate and to provide indoor protection when outdoor activities are not recommended for all students. We encourage parents to inform the school if their child is part of the sensitive group or should have limited outdoor activity when outside temperatures are cooler or the air quality is of a poorer quality.
