Competition was tight in this year’s Teacher Idol assembly. Grade level teachers came together and showcased their musical talents in a friendly rivalry. The judge panel included the notorious Captain James Hook, the narcissistic Evil Queen, Wonderland’s adventurous Alice, the thrill-seeking Kristoff, and Princess Anna of Arendelle. Each judge brought their own unique insight to the competition.
The show stopping performance from the sixth grade team, a surprising rendition of the popular “What Does the Fox Say,” became a clear front runner in the competition and the ultimate winner. Ms. McKell Cope sealed the deal with unexpected dance moves taking their number right to the top!
Third grade team’s surprising comeback grabbed a second place win. The cleverly arranged video to American Authors “Best Day of My Life” became a quick favorite among the younger grade levels. The show was spectacular and students loved it!
First grade team wowed the audience with awe inspiring routine to Frozen’s “Let it go.” The number was perfectly choreographed to Mrs. Coley’s vocal and piano accompaniment. When questioned regarding her moving performance, Mrs. Coley replied “it’s all for the kids!”
The rousing 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem “Wavin Flag” was performed by the fourth grade team. The motivational presentation brilliantly incorporated participation from all students in the fourth grade. Judges could feel the passion behind the lyrics as fourth grade students chanted “when I get older, I will be stronger, they’ll call me freedom.”
The judge’s panel was astonished at the performance from the second grade team; a mash up of feline inspired songs. The judges were impressed with their purrfect costumes and outstanding choreography. The second grade team definitely came to compete this year.
The fifth grade team impressed the judges and audience with their superior knowledge of the states and capitals. The fast paced upbeat “States and Capital” ditty, not only was sung flawlessly, but team members were able to correctly answer difficult follow-up geography questions. Kudos to the fifth grade team for keeping it educational.
