Hello Parents!

It has been a great start to a new school year!  As a school we want to thank each of you for the support you offered at our school carnival this past month.  It was great to see all the families together enjoying the evening of fun, friendship and socializing.  What I saw at the carnival is a true reflection of our mission statement:

In partnership with parents and community, our mission at Sierra Bonita Elementary is to create high levels of learning for every student, celebrate individual differences and abilities, and inspire responsible citizenship and lifelong success.

I look forward to working with each of you throughout the year as we work together to teach and inspire this great generation of kids!  Thank you for your support for Sierra Bonita Elementary!

We had a great turn out to our SEP conferences and PTA Book fair.  Thanks for all you help and support.

School Community Council Elections

We added Jamis Obrien, Heather Telford and Mary Hoyt as parent members to our council.  Mrs. Staheli and Mrs. Latham were added as faculty members.  David Smith was voted in as our SCC Chair and Ms. Cope as our co-Chair.  Our next meeting will be held on October 24th from 11:40-12:40.

Pick-Up Zone & Parking

We appreciate the efforts of all parents and staff members in providing for the safety of students in our drop-off and pick up zones. Please help us to ensure that all students are accompanied by an adult when crossing through the pick-up zone.  Also, thank you for reserving our handicapped parking spaces for those who have need for these parking stalls. We remind you to please park in a parking stall if you need to leave your vehicles to come inside the school.  Also remember that the right lane is for picking up students and the left lane is for pulling through only!  Please do not stop in the left lane or have your students cut through cars to enter your vehicle in the left lane.  This allows the flow of the drop-off and pick-up areas to be maintained and keeps vehicles moving forward and not needing to back up!  We have great appreciation for everyone’s efforts to increase safety in our parking lots and drop off and pick-up zones before and after school.

Note: By law, bus zones cannot be used as drop off and pick up zones even if there are no buses present!

School Checkout Procedures

Please follow the following procedures when you need to check a student out from school before the end-of-school bell rings.  First, share with an office secretary that an early checkout is necessary, second, fill out information and sign name on the checkout sheet located in the office area, and third, wait in the office area until your student arrives in the office. Thank you.

Halloween Day Parade

If weather permits, we will be having our parade route go around Sierra Park following the sidewalk starting at 1:00 pm and AM Kindergarten will have their parade at 11:15 in the school hallways.  The park parade route allows parents to be on either side of the sidewalks to watch and take pictures and will hopefully provide the needed room for all of us.  If the weather does not cooperate, we will continue to follow the old route in the halls and lunchroom.  It should be a Spooktacular time!

Students Walking, Riding Bicycles/Scooters & Crosswalks

We have many students who are walking and riding bicycles/scooters to school each day. We have provided training for students to use sidewalks and to follow the instructions of adult supervisors and our crossing guards. We have instructed students to use the crosswalk in front of the school when crossing 1800 East. Faculty members will serve as crossing guards at this crosswalk. We ask that all parents please instruct their children on these and other safety measures to better ensure that students safely make their way to and from school each day.

Spirit Day

We have school spirit at Sierra Bonita, and have designated each Friday as our School Spirit Day. We have nice school shirts and encourage children to wear their school shirts (this year’s and past years’ shirts) or school colors (blue and maroon) on Fridays.  We have a lot to be proud of at Sierra Bonita and want to do all we can to build school pride.
