In partnership with parents and community, our mission at Sierra Bonita Elementary is to create high levels of learning for every student, celebrate individual differences and abilities, and inspire responsible citizenship and lifelong success.   –Sierra Bonita Mission Statement

Hello Parents,

Welcome to the year 2019!  New Year’s always brings new goals and drive to do and be better.  We look forward to working with you and your students in making 2019 a great year.  Thanks for all you do to make Sierra Bonita a great school in a great community.  We want to welcome Shaun Blakey who will be with us for the next couple of months as an intern principal working with Mr. Andersen.  He is a part of our school community as a parent and works as a school counselor at Maple Mountain High School.  We look forward to having Mr. Blakey at our school and we are excited to get to know him.

SEP Conferences

Our SEP conferences will be held on February 28th.  These will be student led conferences so there will be no sign-ups for this conference.  We recommend that those whose last name that starts with A-L to come any time from 3:30-5:30 and M-Z to come any time between 6-8.  We understand that this time does not work for everyone so if you need to come to the other session that is fine.  We are just trying to prevent too much congestion.  Teachers will be eating dinner from 5:30-6.

Lost and Found Items:  We have several items in our lost and found back by the lunchroom.  Please have your students take a moment to look for their lost items.  You are welcome to come in and look for items that are your childs’.  If items continue to increase and become too many, we will donate these items to Tabitha’s Way.

PTA News:

Next PTA meeting is on January 14, 2019 at 9:15.

School Community Council

Our next SCC meeting will be on January 16th at 11:40.

We are in the process of reviewing our goals for next year and making needed changes to help our students succeed.

Pick-Up Zone & Parking

We appreciate the efforts of all parents and staff members in providing for the safety of students in our drop-off and pick up zones. Please help us to ensure that all students are accompanied by an adult when crossing through the pick-up zone.  Also, thank you for reserving our handicapped parking spaces for those who have need for these parking stalls. We remind you to please park in a parking stall if you need to leave your vehicles to come inside the school.  This allows the flow of the drop-off and pick-up areas to be maintained and keeps vehicles moving forward and not needing to back up!  We have great appreciation for everyone’s efforts to increase safety in our parking lots and drop off and pick-up zones before and after school.  Winter weather creates a greater need for caution and patience as we come to and from school!

Note: By law, bus zones cannot be used as drop off and pick up zones even if there are no buses present!

School Checkout Procedures

Please follow the following procedures when you need to check a student out from school before the end-of-school bell rings.  First, share with an office secretary that an early checkout is necessary, second, fill out information and sign name on the checkout sheet located in the office area, and third, wait in the office area until your student arrives in the office. Thank you.

Students Walking, Riding Bicycles/Scooters & Crosswalks

We have many students who are walking and riding bicycles/scooters to school each day. We have provided training for students to use sidewalks and to follow the instructions of adult supervisors and our crossing guards. We have instructed students to use the crosswalk in front of the school when crossing 1800 East. Faculty members will serve as crossing guards at this crosswalk. We ask that all parents please instruct their children on these and other safety measures to better ensure that students safely make their way to and from school each day.

Spirit Day

We have school spirit at Sierra Bonita, and have designated each Friday as our School Spirit Day. We have nice school shirts and encourage children to wear their school shirts (this year’s and past years’ shirts) or school colors (blue and maroon) on Fridays.  We have a lot to be proud of at Sierra Bonita and want to do all we can to build school pride.
