 Dear Parents,

Thank you for your tremendous support for Sierra Bonita. We are grateful for the partnership we have in working together to help all students learn at high levels and be successful. Thank you for supporting our School & PTA Fundraiser. This year we set a new record. The money generated from this fundraiser will be used to benefit students. We extend an invitation to all parents and school community members to take an active role in volunteering in the classroom and being part of school activities & events. We invite comments and suggestions of how we can best serve the students and families of Sierra Bonita Elementary.

Thank you,

Mike Larsen

Box Tops - We express our appreciation to all families for saving their Box Tops and participating in our Box Tops program. Classes are enjoying some friendly “Box Tops” competition this week (September 30 – October 4). We invite families to please send in your Box Tops. We will have another Box Tops collection week the end of January. Thank you!

SEP Conferences

Our first SEP conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 23. SEP Conference Sign-Up Sheets were available during our Open House and Back-to-School Night. SEP Letters, with assigned times, will be sent home just after Fall Break. If you would like to check on your SEP time or have need to make a change, please feel free to call the school. Thanks!

Reflections is right around the corner, and we hope that everyone is working hard on their Reflections projects. The deadline and entry date is October 24th; please bring your projects and forms filled out to school that day. There will be a doughnut and popcorn movie party on the 28th for all of the students who turn in an entry. We will also have our awards assembly on the 5th of November at 7pm in the gym. If you still need an entry form, the office has lots of them in all of the entry categories. Thanks for working so hard on your projects, and we look forward to all of the talent pouring in. Your PTA Reflections Committee

Halloween Costume Parade On Thursday, October 31st, at 1:00pm, we will be holding our Annual Halloween Costume Parade and invite all who would like to participate or watch the parade to come and enjoy this event. We ask that our students participate by bringing a costume to school and changing into costumes after lunch. We do ask that students not wear masks or gory costumes or bring any kind of weapon with their costume. Parents are invited to attend this parade and to help their younger children into their costumes. Chairs will be set up in the auditorium and in the hallways for all to enjoy the parade.

Dressing for the Weather of the Day / Lost and Found

With colder weather approaching, I wanted to share information about weather and dressing for the weather of each day. We encourage all of our students to come to school dressed appropriately for the weather of that day. Please assist your children to wear appropriate cold weather clothing. If possible, please place a name or family name in coats and jackets, so we can get a lost coat or jacket returned to the owner. If your child has lost a jacket, coat, or any other item, we invite you look through the Lost and Found bins located in the hallway near the auditorium. Thank you!

Bully Blockers

At Sierra Bonita this year, the “Bully Blocker” program is being introduced and implemented. At the beginning of the year, our school counselor, Mike Lewis, went to each classroom and explained the “Bully Blocker” program and shared the promise.

The promise of a Bully Blocker is:

I will...

Stand up to Bullying

Never Bully

Be a Friend

Each student was able to commit to be a “Bully Blocker”. If a student witnesses a bullying act taking place, directed at either himself/herself or another student, the student is to ask the individual bullying to, “please stop...” The student will then make sure the student is alright and extend care and friendship. When a member of the faculty/staff witnesses “bully blocking” taking place, the staff member will present the “bully blocker” recognition to the student. We are proud of our students for being bully blockers and being kind and respectful to each other.

Red Ribbon Week Message from our PTA (October 28 – November 1)

Be a Buddy Not a Bully! It’s Cool to be Kind! This year for Red Ribbon Week we are putting a STOP to bullying and being kind to everyone.

Bullying comes in many different forms. It is when you keep picking on someone because you think you're cooler, smarter, stronger or better than them. Bullying is when a person or a group repeatedly and intentionally uses or abuse their power to intimidate, hurt, oppress or damage someone else. It can be covert or cyber-based (happening online through social networks or even through mobile phones). Bullying can be physical or emotional.

Bullying behavior can include teasing, insulting someone (particularly about their weight or height, race, religion or other personal traits), shoving, hitting, excluding someone, or gossiping about someone. Bullying can cause a victim to feel upset, afraid, ashamed, embarrassed, and anxious about going to school.

So we want you to stand up and say NO to bullies. Don't let it happen to you or anyone else. If you see it happening tell a teacher or another adult. Stand up and say be kind!!

Monday, October 28: It’s cool to be kind! Crazy hair day

Tuesday, October 29: Put a STOP to bullying! Wear red

Wednesday, October 30: "Sock It" to bullying! Wear crazy socks

Thursday, October 31: Boo to Bullies!

Friday, November 1: Team up against bullying! Wear your favorite team’s shirt or school shirt.
