Hello Parents,

Welcome to February!  I can’t believe that we are this far into the school year.  With spring on its way in 6 weeks, hopefully in 6 weeks, we anticipate many more great things happening here at Sierra Bonita.  I am impressed with the great students we have in our school and the great support they get from each of you!  Thanks for all you do!

SEP Conferences

Our SEP conferences will be held on February 23rd.  These will be student led conferences so there will be no sign-ups for this conference.  We recommend that those whose last name that starts with A-L to come any time from 3:30-5:30 and M-Z to come any time between 6-8.  We understand that this time does not work for everyone so if you need to come to the other session that is fine.  We are just trying to prevent too much congestion.  Teachers will be eating dinner from 5:30-6.

Lost and Found Items:  We have several items in our lost and found back by the lunchroom.  Please have your students take a moment to look for their lost items.  You are welcome to come in and look for items as well that are your childs’.  If items continue to increase and become too many, we will donate these items to Tabitha’s Way.

PTA News:

Dear Sierra Bonita Families:

The PTA is having a fun and exciting year at Sierra Bonita supporting teachers, students, and families. While we are eager to provide support and activities that enrich students at Sierra Bonita, we cannot do it without your support.  We are asking families once again to participate in our 2016-2017 PTA Direct Donation Fundraiser where 100% of your donations go back to our teachers and children. We had great success last year with this fundraiser and were able to exceed our goal of $5,000. Together, we raised over $5100.00 because of your generosity!  To see how your donations are being invested in Sierra Bonita this year, please watch for an email with an itemized PTA budget. Donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be issued upon request.

*The 2016-2017 goal of the PTA Direct Donation Fundraiser is to raise $5000.00*

As an incentive to encourage students to participate, we will be rewarding the top three classes that bring in the most amount of money by Friday, February 17th.. The first place class will earn a limousine ride and lunch with Mr. Andersen! The second place class will receive a pizza party, and the third place class will get to enjoy an ice cream treat!

If we reach our School Goal of $5000.00, Mr. Andersen

& the PTA Board will take a pie to the face with the whole school watching!!

We realize not every child can contribute a large amount; however, we encourage every student to participate.  Donate an amount that is comfortable for your family. We would love to achieve 100% participation from Sierra Bonita families!  We will gladly accept credit cards, cash or checks made payable to Sierra Bonita PTA.  Please send back your donation in the provided envelope with your child to their classroom by this FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17th.   If you have any questions please contact Erin Jackson at erinschaerrer [at] msn.com (erinschaerrer[at]msn[dot]com).

Respectfully,

Sierra Bonita PTA Board

.

School Community Council

Our next SCC meeting will be on March 1st at 11:40.

We are in the process of reviewing our goals for next year and making needed changes to help our students succeed.

Pick-Up Zone & Parking

We appreciate the efforts of all parents and staff members in providing for the safety of students in our drop-off and pick up zones. Please help us to ensure that all students are accompanied by an adult when crossing through the pick-up zone.  Also, thank you for reserving our handicapped parking spaces for those who have need for these parking stalls. We remind you to please park in a parking stall if you need to leave your vehicles to come inside the school.  This allows the flow of the drop-off and pick-up areas to be maintained and keeps vehicles moving forward and not needing to back up!  We have great appreciation for everyone’s efforts to increase safety in our parking lots and drop off and pick-up zones before and after school.  Winter weather creates a greater need for caution and patience as we come to and from school!

Note: By law, bus zones cannot be used as drop off and pick up zones even if there are no buses present!

School Checkout Procedures

Please follow the following procedures when you need to check a student out from school before the end-of-school bell rings.  First, share with an office secretary that an early checkout is necessary, second, fill out information and sign name on the checkout sheet located in the office area, and third, wait in the office area until your student arrives in the office. Thank you.

Students Walking, Riding Bicycles/Scooters & Crosswalks

We have many students who are walking and riding bicycles/scooters to school each day. We have provided training for students to use sidewalks and to follow the instructions of adult supervisors and our crossing guards. We have instructed students to use the crosswalk in front of the school when crossing 1800 East. Faculty members will serve as crossing guards at this crosswalk. We ask that all parents please instruct their children on these and other safety measures to better ensure that students safely make their way to and from school each day.

Spirit Day

We have school spirit at Sierra Bonita, and have designated each Friday as our School Spirit Day. We have nice school shirts and encourage children to wear their school shirts (this year’s and past years’ shirts) or school colors (blue and maroon) on Fridays.  We have a lot to be proud of at Sierra Bonita and want to do all we can to build school pride.

Extracurricular Activities:

We have had an increased interest in chess club this term and have had to put students on a waiting list due to the number of students interested.  If there is a parent interested in volunteering one morning a week to help manage a second chess club, please contact Mr. Andersen at the school office.  Thanks!
