SCHOOL HEALTH (Spanish Version Attached)
Tiffany Boston RN, School Nurse
IS YOUR CHILD TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL?
You are probably very aware of the fact that there are a lot of cold and flu germs circulating in our community at this time. This same situation can be found throughout the state and even across the country.
In order to reduce the number of students, faculty and staff being exposed to these illnesses, we are asking that you carefully review the attached list that has been provided by the Utah County Health Department. By keeping sick children at home, the chances of spreading the illness is greatly reduced. If your child shows any of these signs while they are at school, we will notify you immediately so that you can take them home until they have recovered.
We greatly appreciate all that you do to ensure that your children are in school each and every day when they are healthy. Attendance is so important for student success. When your child is ill or absent for appointments, etc., please call the school office to excuse them. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our school a safe and healthy place to be.
Should They Stay or Should They Go?
Children, staff, parents and/or volunteers will be excluded from the classroom if any of the following are noted:
- Fever of 100.5 degrees F or above
- Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
- Diarrhea-frequent, loose, watery stools
- Sore throat, acute cold, or persistent cough
- Runny nose (thick green/yellow discharge-non allergenic)
- Red, inflamed or discharging eyes (non allergenic). Pink eye must be treated with antibiotic drop/ointment for at least 24 hours before returning to school
- Swollen glands around jaw, ears, or neck
- Any skin sore oozing of fluid or suspected impetigo (may have a yellow crusty discharge from a sore)
- Open, infected wounds
- Suspected head or body lice that has NOT been treated
- An unexplained rash
- Have been diagnosed with any of the following (unless properly treated for at least 24 hours by medication or followed doctor recommendations): Coxsackie virus, influenza virus, or strep throat.
Nebo School District’s teacher Shareka Gregory, was nominated and WON the KSL Teacher Feature.
Mrs. Gregory was nominated by parent, Ashley Atwater. She said in part:
“When my daughter was able to turn in a request form last May, the first teacher on her list was Mrs. Gregory. I knew nothing about her or her teaching style, but my daughter was drawn to her. As this school year approached, she celebrated as she found out who her teacher was. She was so excited to start school and be in Mrs. Gregory's class.
“School starts and from day one, my daughter has loved going to school. When she has to stay home because she is sick, my daughter cries because she will miss out on all of the awesome things Mrs. Gregory has planned for them. Mrs. Gregory has an Instagram for her fourth-grade class. On there, she takes pictures and videos of the kids and things they are working on at school. As a parent, I love this! I cannot be there every day to see all the amazing things she is doing, but I feel like a part of it because Mrs. Gregory takes the time to do this.
“It doesn't stop there... we received our monthly newsletter in our child's folder, and it read at the top something similar to this, ‘Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Then she explained that when her heart is aching she just wants to serve. She adopted a class and was in close contact with a teacher in Texas effected by the hurricane and was collecting and mailing supplies and donations to them. This just shows you what kind of a person she is. We think she is just amazing, and I know I am not the only parent that feels this way!”
KSL NewsRadio and Zions Bank are proud to honor Utah's best teachers with the KSL Teacher Feature Awards! Since 1994, Teacher Feature has highlighted outstanding teachers throughout the State of Utah. Winning teachers are announced every Tuesday morning, September through June, on Utah's Morning News with Brian & Amanda.
Each winning teacher is honored with a plaque from Zions Bank, an overnight stay at Anniversary Inn, a gift certificate for dinner at the beautiful Roof Restaurant at Temple Square and a pair of season tickets from Hale Centre Theater!
All winners are also invited to attend an end-of-year banquet at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in their honor. In addition, one lucky teacher will win the grand prize 2-year lease on a new car courtesy of Burt Brothers Tire and Service.
A panel of judges from Zions Bank, the State Office of Education, and KSL NewsRadio judge the hundreds of nominating letters. The letters can be sent in by anyone - students, peers, former students and even relatives. If you would like to nominate a deserving teacher, go to www.kls.com/?nid=191(link is external).

Two of our sixth grade students, Lily Chea and Amarie Huntsman, spent a week doing acts of kindness. Our principal, Mr. Andersen, was one of the recipients. Thank you to those students who put smiles on many faces. :)
Dear Hope of America Students and Parents,
Thank you for being patient as I waited for registration information form Hope of America. Finally we are ready to start the Hope of America registration process. They worked really hard at getting their new system up and running. They made some changes to what they did last year. There are 4 things each participant needs to do. Sign 2 forms, register online and send $3 to the school for the bus.
I have attached the welcome letter and consent forms.
