On September 27, 2011 the Kindergarten students of Sierra Bonita Elementary enjoyed their first field trip of the year at Bicentennial Park. The teachers were able to expand their class discussions of things they find outside and reminded the students to use their five senses to learn about the world. The students were able to engage in many different activities in the park which included:

Examining pond water looking for live critters, using binoculars to look at the mountains and to find birds flying in the sky, they compared the types of leaves and needles on each of the trees, they walked on the boardwalk to observe the wetlands area, and they tallied the different animals they got to see.

What an amazing opportunity for our kindergarteners.

Mrs. Christensen's 3rd Grade Class

The third graders at Sierra Bonita Elementary had the opportunity to sell Otter Pops during school. They wanted to go on a fantastic field trip snowshoeing-skiing but didn't have the money for it. To help raise money they purchased three large boxes of Otter Pops and each class took a turn selling them during lunch recess. The students would take money with their teachers’ help, snip the ends of the Otter Pops off, and even clean up the wrappers. They sold the Otter Pops for 8 days and they made close to $300. Next year, they plan on starting earlier in the year and ending a few days later. The students really enjoyed the cold treats during recess.

School Carnival

Thank you to the families and community who supported our school carnival. Faculty, staff and PTA members feel the carnival was a huge success and that a great time was had by all.  Families were able to enjoy exciting inflatable rides and games with prizes.  The silent auction showed some fierce competition among bidders for some wonderful baskets put together by the PTA through donations by the parents of Sierra Bonita Elementary.  Thanks to everyone for their hard work.  We hope everyone had a fantastic experience!
